The ceiling and cornice work at the Abbotsford Circle Bar has been re-painted, with special care taken to bring out the fine detail of the Jacobean ceiling and concentrate your eye on the splendid Spanish mahogany bar fitment (1902). A set of historic photographic prints from this era show Jenners, the National Portrait Gallery and Abbotsford House. The Ladies Toilets and Restaurant Staircase have also been refurbished and we have improved the Outside Seating Area.
The Bar now has a Blackboard over the Food servery which displays details of our 100+ Malt Whiskies plus listings of current Guest Real Ales and Craft Beers.
The new Summer Menu will showcase the best Scottish produce and will be complimented by our new Wine List including a great choice of wines at differing price points.

Edinburgh's First Apple Store Emerges

It's taken many years, too much dust, scaffolding and uncertainty, but it's been worth it. The Guildford Arms has seen many changes around it since 1898 including the construction of the well loved Woolworth's building in front of it in 1925, and the iconic North British Hotel being reincarnated as The Balmoral.

The Guildford Arms and The Balmoral Hotel with its new neighbours

After Woolworth's closure, 10-15 Princes Street played host for several years to a variety of occupants including fast food chains and bookstores. Now it's general neglect has been swept away by a complete refurbishment and the lure of new and exciting shops and hotels.

Motel One brings its highly successful European formula for high quality low cost accommodation with its second Hotel in the capital. But the crown jewel for the area is Edinburgh's first Apple store.

Regardless of whether you are a fan of its products or design, Apple's stores generate some of the highest footfall and turnover per square metre in the world. Astonishingly, in America this translates to it performing twice as well as Tiffany & Co, and achieving an average of 250,000 visitors per store per quarter.

Hopefully this will help the East end of Princes Street thrive and perhaps a few more will be tempted to sample the delights of The Guildford Arms next door. Rumour has it that the Princes Street Apple Store will open its doors on the 26th July.  We look forward to welcoming them as new neighbours.

Motel One & Apple Store Nearing Completion

Good news for customers of the Guildford Arms as the scaffolding has been removed from the renovated building in front of the pub which will house a new Motel One hotel and allegedly Edinburgh's first Apple Store.

West Register Street Emerges Renewed

After nearly two years of dust and grime and inconvenience, West Register Street is finally being given a chance to shine - who knows, perhaps the road will even be given some love and attention.
